Find out more about Ashleigh Searle, SLCP Engagement Officer…
“I have always wanted to work with children and young people as I am a Care Experienced professional. When I was a child I was looked after by the local authority. I felt as though I should use my experiences to help other people and decided I really wanted to work in youth engagement. I think it is important for young people to see someone that is representative of their background and has had similar experiences coming back to help them in a professional capacity. I think it is important for young people to have someone relatable working with them”.
“Since I started with the programme we have made great progress with youth engagement. We have reached around one hundred and seventy children and young people with nearly fifty signed up for future involvement. The programme gets broken down and explained to young people in a way that is easy for them to understand and young people have been positive about the programme and how they can be involved. Young people feel really empowered to have their say and trust us to deliver improved outcomes with the help of their thoughts and opinions. Whenever we have sessions we feed back to young people to ensure they know what we are going to do with the information they provide us and what will change”.
“It has been a lot of hard work but equally a lot of fun getting to meet and work with so many amazing young people.”
